Subject: I went to highschool with your father

Hi Bryce:

I went to highschool with your father. My friend LizAnn Hilty and her family were out visiting with your Uncle Milton and told me what a nice little boy you are. She also told me to check out your website. It's so nice of you and your family to share the things they've learned with other people facing the same challenge you are right now.

I hope your treatments go well and our family will be keeping you and your family in our prayers.

Hi Bryce
I live in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia and have just had a very upsetting note from a friend telling me she has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I have been searching the net for more information and came across your webpage. I just want to say that while I know the next couple of years will be hard for both you and your family, my prayers will be with you and I hope that at the end of the time you will again enjoy a healthy happy lifestyle. If you would like to drop me a line to let me know how you are going please feel free - my very best wishes to you all.......Merle
(my friend and I are both 63 years old so it just shows this disease is not particular as to what age groups it attacks is it?)

Subject: When I do get to Powell, Ohio
Location: Powell, Ohio

Just had a chance to check the new updates on Byrce's Website. It's
looking great. I'm so glad that we got a chance to spend some time with the
kids this time. He was so ill last year when we were there. It made us
feel so good to see him playing hoops and just being a kid. You have done a
wonderful job of raising a child with an illness without making him change
his 5 or 6 year old lifestyle. Believe me, I've seen that happen, and it's
not good.
Bryce is so well adjusted. Sometimes parents of children with
life-threatening problems hurt so much for their child that they try to
change everything around the child. (i.e. not making them share properly,
letting the child think the world revolves around them)
It is very evident that in spite of it all, Bryce was kept as normal as life
permitted. (I know that normal doesn't come to mind when you see your child
with tubes, needles, etc. protruding from all parts of his body) But you
get my drift. . . .
Thanks for inviting us into your lovely home, and letting be part of
your father's day celebration. I feel that I met alot of loving people in
your home. They were all great. When I do get to Powell, Ohio, I will look
up your mom Kelli. Thank again for the lovely evening Saturday night at the
party, and Sunday at your house. I will send you all of my double pictures
from Saturday's party.
Love, Lizann & Jeff

Hi Bryce. How are you doing? Are you having fun at summer school and learning a lot? So what have you done so far this summer? I had to spend a few days cleaning out the classroom. I have also been working on the computer a lot. I am reading a really long book and sometimes I even take a nap. I was looking at your web site and saw that it was recently updated. I saw the Halloween picture with you and all your friends. I remember that day. It was so much fun. I also remember when we had our pizza party and movie. That was very special.
Say hi to your Mom and Dad and Brooke. I hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Bryce!

Long time no chat. I just saw all the updates on the webpage. You look
terrific. I hear you are going to summer school and taking karate. I went
to summer school once, I didn't like it very much. It was too hot and I
wanted to be at the pool with my friends.

I hope youa re having a great summer. We are going to take some pictures of
us at the US Open and send them back to you and your daddy.

Write me back!

Your friend,

Wow! What a terrific family you are!!! I E-mailed Bryce the other day when I read his pages. My name is Judy and I'm from N.J. I did not expect a response so quickly. I just wanted you guys to know that my family and I would be praying for Bryce. What a great little boy. I printed the family's photos so I could share them with other people, including my best friend Rose. Her friend's son was just diagnosed at the age of 18. He is to begin college in September but he has a lot ahead of him. We don't have too many details right now, he is in the baby stages of testing so we're not sure how things will go. I know that they did a chest x-ray, P.E.T. scan, and I believe he will have an M.R.I. done soon. He was diagnosed by the Doctors in Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY.
After reading and seeing Bryce's story, we feel a lot better! What a strong, spunky little guy you have there.

Bryce, I can tell you I know what it's like to have lumbar punctures because I got sick many years ago and was first diagnosed with Lupus. I went into remission for a long time when suddenly 3 years ago I got quite sick. I was re-diagnosed with Sjorgren's, they are both connective tissue diseases. While 2 different Doctor's disagree, one thinks I have both and the other, my Dr. in NY thinks I just have the more severe form of Sjogren's. It really doesn't matter which it is , it's pretty much the same.

I have been taking prednisone for almost 3 years. It ranges anywhere from 200 mlgs. everyother day to currently 80 mlgs. everyother day without a break in between. The disease has been affecting my Central Nervous System along with some other problems. The worst part for me is the "always being hungry" and putting on 40 more pounds than my actual weight of 110 lbs. Since this decrease I have managed to lose about 15 lbs. No sugar! No candy, No ice cream, Oh, how I love chocolate.

I work as a Teacher Assistant for children that have Developmental and Physical Disabilities. I hadn't worked from January through June, besides the disease, I also had back surgery for 2 herniated discs. I really miss the kids, they are only in first grade. I'm hoping to return in September, I'll have to see how it goes.

I would just like to stay in touch and see how Bryce is doing. I wanted to tell you a bit about myself because you told me a lot about yourselves. I get attached very easily and now I have a special place in my heart for all of you. Bryce is not the only brave one, Mom, Dad and Brooke are very brave too! You are so lucky to have eachother!

:-) Love, Judy xoxoxo
p.s. It's 7:00 pm in Jersey, pasta at 10:00 sounds good to me!
